A Machine-to-X Data Standards Playbook for Manufacturers

This project aims to develop a Machine-to-X Data Standards Playbook for manufacturers to determine data standards for a given use case throughout the product lifecycle.

Problem

Data is the fundamental component towards adoption of Industry 4.0. However, the complexity of connecting heterogeneous systems (machine, software, enterprises, etc.) through data formats is a significant barrier to adoption of digitalization by manufacturers. Data standards have been developed to address the heterogeneity of manufacturing systems. However, data standards are numerous due to the siloed nature of SDO’s that develop these standards. Hence, this siloed approach makes it difficult for manufacturers to adopt data standards for their use case to facilitate semantic interoperability and consistency between systems.

Proposed Solution

The team will consolidate and organize data standards based on machine-to-x applications throughout the product lifecycle in a digestible manner for manufacturers through a demonstrated playbook.

Impact

Upon success of the project, manufacturers will be able to quickly determine the data standards landscape and select the appropriate data standards for their use case. By presenting complex data standards in an understandable format, this project will reduce the barriers to digitalization and interoperability of production systems, thus resulting in more efficient and resilient manufacturing.
