Webinar | Virtual Talk with Martin Hellman: The Mind Behind Secure Communication

YouTube video

Martin Hellman co-invented the public key cryptography method that revolutionized online security โ€” and e-commerce โ€” by enabling two parties to securely communicate over an insecure channel.

In this webinar, hosted by MxD as part of its CyberSecure Supplier Program, Hellman explains how it worked with a few simple diagrams.

He also flagged a problem: Too many legitimate emails from institutions asking people to click-through.

โ€œI joke that my banks are training me to fall for phishing expeditions,โ€ Hellman said. โ€œHow often do you get an email from your bank saying, โ€˜Click here to see your statementโ€™? They shouldn’t be doing that.โ€

Instead, Hellman said, banks should be instructing customers to go to the bankโ€™s website and login. โ€œI always go to my bookmark for that bank.โ€

This webinar was originally recorded on January 22, 2025.
