Finding the Right Supplier for Precision Parts – The First Time

It can take months to manufacture a newly designed precision part, so it is crucial for manufacturers to choose suppliers with the ability to produce accurate parts the first time. Lacking a certified analysis of a supplier’s machining capabilities, manufacturers often don’t have the data they need to make informed decisions. They usually must rely on familiarity and cost.

Outcome

This MxD project led by Boeing developed a software tool that virtually replicates a supplier’s machines and verifies their ability to produce parts to the required design specifications. This assurance allows equipment manufacturers to source their supply chains with confidence and to build a trusted network of suppliers with certified capabilities.
