We’re a government-funded, industry-led organization determined to boost manufacturing efficiency, instill workers with new digital skills and enhance our national security.
Global competition is fierce in the field of digital manufacturing. Advances are rapidly accelerating, widening a gap in U.S. industry between those with means to invest and those without. MxD is working to bring everyone, especially small and medium manufacturers, into a more dynamic future through access to funding for R&D projects and testbeds.
MxD serves as the National Center for Cybersecurity in Manufacturing, developing programs and materials for manufacturers of all sizes to help protect their digital systems. Demands for better defenses are escalating: For the fourth year in a row, manufacturing is the most targeted sector for cyber attacks.
As the United States faces a huge staffing shortfall – a projected 2.1 million unfilled jobs by 2030 – MxD helps industry recruit people and upskill those already in it. More than 28,000 people are currently enrolled in our online courses ranging from artificial intelligence to cybersecurity.
MxD’s founding partner is the U.S. Department of Defense, which is committed to keeping our industrial base strong and ensuring that the military is armed with the latest in advanced technologies. MxD works with the DoD to evaluate the digital readiness of the nation’s military factories to recommend and execute modernization projects.
The 22,000-square-foot MxD Factory Floor is where we demonstrate technology that can be readily implemented; train the workforce on these new systems and tools; and reinforce the critical need for cybersecurity in manufacturing.
