CHICAGO – MxD is pleased to welcome Kathleen S. Miller, founder and principal of Lakeside Advisors LLC and former Deputy Under Secretary of Defense Comptroller, to its Board of Directors. Her appointment became effective June 11.
“Kathleen’s experience at the highest levels of government and defense operations will provide tremendous value to MxD and our network,” said MxD CEO Berardino Baratta. “Her leadership in financial management, logistics and organizational performance aligns closely with MxD’s mission to strengthen and secure U.S. manufacturing.”
Miller is a nationally recognized leader in defense and federal management with more than two decades of executive leadership experience across the U.S. Department of Defense (now called the Department of War), the U.S. Army and the Internal Revenue Service. Throughout her career, she has managed large organizations, overseen complex operations and directed multi-billion-dollar budgets in support of national security and military readiness.
Most recently, Miller served as the Senate-confirmed Deputy Under Secretary of Defense Comptroller from 2021 to 2025. In that role, she oversaw $2.46 trillion in Department of Defense budgets and $89.4 billion in supplemental funding while helping drive improvements in financial accountability and stewardship across the Department. Her leadership contributed to advanced reforms designed to improve transparency and decision-making throughout the defense enterprise.

Prior to her service as Deputy Under Secretary of Defense Comptroller, Miller held several senior executive positions within the U.S. Army, including Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Army, Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations (G-3/5/7), and Principal Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics. In those roles, she led major initiatives to improve operational effectiveness, resource management and logistics support for military operations worldwide.
In addition to leading Lakeside Advisors LLC, Miller serves on advisory boards for SAP NS2 and Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. She is also a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and a past president of the American Society of Military Comptrollers.

BOARD UPDATES: Board Chair Bardin will conclude his term on June 30, 2026, and will be succeeded by current Board Vice Chair Shirish Pareek. Alexis Lasselle Ross will assume the role of Board Vice Chair.
