Tool Management System Feasibility Study

As the Joint Center of Excellence for Lethality, Picatinny Arsenal provides prototyping capability for multiple ammunition jacket forming processes. To support these preproduction runs, multiple sets of tools are ordered and used. Due to the nature of the facility, flexibility necessitates use of these tool sets for many projects, and they may be broken or otherwise consumed. If a part of a set of tools is consumed or in use on other runs, it could be weeks before new set of tools is delivered to the arsenal. MxD is looking to engage with a partner to deliver a system design for a tool management system for future implementation.

About the Project

The Department of Defense (DoD) is executing their Digital Modernization Strategy through four strategic initiatives: innovation for advantage, optimization, resilient cybersecurity, and cultivation of talent to strengthen the Organic Industrial Base. MxD is tasked to assist DoD in the identification of opportunities to develop and implement Advanced Manufacturing Technologies in critical processes to improve methods for manufacturing of existing products. With many pieces of equipment already established in supporting current production the focus is on what technology can be introduced to improve operations by optimizing capabilities.
