Parts Designers Can Predict Performance With Click of a Button
Historically, when manufacturers have designed new parts, they’ve been unable to predict performance problems, manufacturability or durability. Designing an effective part has essentially been extensive design experience coupled with trial-and-error.
This project led by Iowa State University created a software package (“ANA”) that allows designers to virtually test their products before spending money creating prototypes. With the click of a button, they can analyze a new part in minutes. ANA is a designer’s “virtual assistant,” providing information that can drive down costs and produce flexible designs that can take into account different manufacturing processes.
